Planning approval for Chobham Farm Scheme

24th July 2013

At their planning committee meeting on 23 July, the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) approved plans for a residential-led development of the Chobham Farm site in Stratford. The development of the six hectare site will create a new family neighbourhood and will provide more than 1,000 new homes.

The proposals, designed by architects Pollard Thomas Edwards (PTEa) and brought forward by East Thames Group and LCR, also provide new parks, community spaces, opportunities for local businesses, and shops.

The construction of the first phase of the development, comprising 173 residential units representing a mix of private sale and affordable tenures including shared ownership, is anticipated to commence in early 2014. The latter phases of the scheme will be brought forward over a number of years dependent on market demand and land availability.

LLDC’s decision follows CABE’s endorsement of recent revisions to the scheme’s designs.

David Joy, Chief Executive of LCR, said: “We are thrilled that we can now move ahead and start work creating a vibrant family neighbourhood as part of a new, exciting area of London.”

Geoff Pearce, Director of Development and Property, East Thames Group, said: “This joint planning application has been a long time in the making and all of the partners are extremely pleased that work on this exciting new neighbourhood can begin. The development will offer more than 1,000 homes, all designed to the highest standards, and will work to mesh together the existing residential community on the one side and the new East Village neighbourhood on the other.”
