Manchester Mayfield PQQ Launch

24th September 2015

The Mayfield Partnership comprising LCR, Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester is today commencing the search for a development partner to transform the Mayfield Quarter in Manchester.

The procurement process is being launched at tonight’s Manchester at MIPIM Partnership 2016 Launch Event, taking place at INNSIDE Manchester. The aim of the event is to promote Manchester in the run-up to MIPIM 2016 in Cannes – the world’s leading property event.

The chosen development partner will be expected to lead on the comprehensive regeneration of this currently derelict site which will reshape and extend the city towards Manchester Piccadilly, building on the benefits of the Northern Hub and acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the wider Piccadilly area. The Mayfield Quarter is set to create over 7,500 office, retail, leisure and construction employment opportunities through the delivery of 1,300 homes, 75,000m² of office space, a 350-bedroom hotel, retail and leisure facilities and a new six-acre city park centred along a remediated River Medlock.

The launch of the Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) marks the first stage of the tender process for a development partner and will allow the Partnership to assess the commercial, technical and financial competencies of the companies that come forward to bid for the contract.

Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said:

"Mayfield is a prime example of what can be achieved through partnership working and with a clear vision. It is a development we will be promoting as part of a suite of proposals at MIPIM next year to demonstrate the depth and breadth of excellent investment opportunities available in Manchester. I'm pleased we're launching the search for a development partner who will help us to deliver a scheme which over time will make a significant contribution towards the city's growth, by leveraging Mayfield’s proximity to Manchester Piccadilly Station and the planned new HS2 terminal. We look forward to making the vision for Mayfield into a reality.”

David Joy, Chief Executive of LCR said:

“Today marks a significant milestone in the development of one of Manchester’s key regeneration sites. We are confident that we can find an experienced, innovative and well-funded partner to help us deliver a new and exciting urban development in Manchester City Centre, which will not only provide a new high quality public and commercial space but enhance connectivity beyond the site and act as a catalyst to maximise the regeneration potential of the area. The chosen development partner will lead on securing planning consent for the site as well as high quality place-making, through to delivery of the necessary infrastructure and the development itself. We look forward to working with our partners to complete this next stage so that we can ensure the successful delivery of a scheme which is set to realise long term benefits for the local area.”
