Developer and placemaking expert LCR has established a permanent base in Manchester to support its work on the £850m Mayfield regeneration project and complement its wider UK expansion plans.

The company, which is a member of the Mayfield Partnership alongside Manchester City Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and U&I, has opened an office at the Mayfield Gatehouse on Baring Street.

The Manchester operation is headed by senior development manager Adam Wisher, who joined LCR at the inception of the Mayfield Partnership in 2016. It is now recruiting for a development manager to join the Manchester team.

LCR, which is wholly owned by the UK Government, has a 20-year track record of delivering major transport-linked regeneration schemes, including the multi-billion-pound redevelopments of King’s Cross and Stratford City – two of London’s most successful regeneration stories.

The new office will also support its growing portfolio of strategic partnerships with local authorities, where LCR is providing land assembly, master planning and development management expertise to deliver regeneration projects around new and existing stations. Its current partnerships include projects in Leeds, Sheffield and Nottinghamshire.

Adam Wisher, senior development manager at LCR, said: “With the first phase of Mayfield gathering momentum, it’s the right time for us to invest in our presence in the region.

“Alongside our work at Mayfield, we’re continuing to build relationships with public bodies across the north to help them deliver homes, jobs and economic growth from transport-linked land and property assets. Growing our Manchester-based team will help us to continue to be responsive to these opportunities.

“At a time when local authorities face pressure to ramp up housebuilding, improve infrastructure and drive employment opportunities, we are ideally positioned to bring together public and private partners to create schemes with imaginative placemaking at their core.

LCR is a skilled commercial developer and the UK Government’s placemaking expert, with a track record of creating exciting new destinations for people to live, work and experience.

It worked with Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester to form the Mayfield Partnership and assemble land for development, before forming a public-private joint venture with developer U+I to deliver the scheme.

The £850 million Mayfield project, delivered by the Mayfield Development Partnership, will see the disused 24-acre site transformed into a thriving new city district. The development is set to provide 1,500 new homes, over 1.67 million sq ft of office space, a 650-bed hotel, and 347,000 sq ft of retail and leisure facilities. It will also feature a new park, the first to be developed in Manchester for over a century.
